Amanda Palmer - There Will Be No Intermission

Amanda Palmer is a songwriter extraordinaire, and I've already posted her 2012 full-length "Theatre Is Evil" (with her band The Grand Theft Orchestra). Here we have her 2019 effort, one that seemed appropriate to post today, given how motherhood is a significant part of the album, especially on the duo of "A Mother's Confession" and "Look Mummy, No Hands", and that it's Mother's Day here in the UK.

I'm consistently taken aback by how epic yet intimate this record is - with just piano or ukulele Amanda is capable of unmatched grandeur in her music, yet maintains the poignance, eloquence, and sheer brazen honesty of a poet singer-songwriter. Each song is preceded by a short instrumental interlude (one of which is the title track); these reference previous songs or introduce ones to come, and add a sense of cohesion to proceedings.

And in regards to the aforementioned "A Mother's Confession" - I sincerely doubt there's another song out there that conveys the feeling of being so overwhelmed by parenthood as ably as this song does.

So, thankyou to all the mothers out there, including my own, for all you do, all you've done, and all you've sacrificed.
