Austin, Texas' Jackie Venson has had this record in the vault for a while now, but it finally saw a release last month, on Valentine's Day, which I'm sure was no coincidence given how the record deals with different aspects of love, relationships, and breakups.
Mixing soul and R&B with funk and indie-rock bordering on rock 'n' roll, Venson's soulful warm vocals and wandering rock guitar take front and centre stage as she seamlessly blends genres and possibly even musical eras into something with a genuinely classic yet undoubtedly contemporary sound.
This is an upbeat, foot-tapping, relatable listen, with gorgeous vocals, guitar solos aplenty, and a serious groove throughout.
