El Morgan has been mentioned previously a few times on this page - I posted her excellent collaborative split 7" (with her fronting The Arteries on one side and a Kelly Kemp-fronted Bangers on the other) and she provided backing vocals on Helen Chambers' album.
And so now I'm posting both her 2010 mini-album "Fight or Flight" and her 2011 follow up the "Darlington EP", as they go together so well.
With exquisite vocals and superb songwriting ("Ballroom" is genuinely one of my favourite songs of all time), these 2 records are both just stunning. El's beautiful acoustic compositions take in indie, folk, country, and folk-punk, adeptly blending them into something poignant yet uplifting, with a universal quality that is nonetheless distinctive.
A new album with a full band as "El Morgan and the Divers" has been in the offing for a while now, but in the meantime these two records are an absolute pleasure to spend time with.
