Blocko - South London Vs The World

Today is another Bandcamp Friday, when more money goes directly to the bands and labels, and here is a release that is very much worth getting.

The UK's mid-'90s melodic hardcore scene was phenomenal, with bands such as Hooton 3 Car and Broccoli riding high, before both called it a day. Fast forward to the early '00s, and Blocko formed to carry on in a similar vein, and were rightfully lauded for their efforts.

This 2 CD discography set takes their output that included a 7 inch, an EP, three split inches, and a mis-titled full-length, and divvies up the tracks between those recorded in South London and those recorded further afield, including 5 songs recorded live in Belfast, and an alternate mix of the album tracks recorded stateside. It's been made available by Boss Tuneage Records as a Name Your Price download to raise money for Suicide Prevention & Intervention IOW (also known as SPIIOW), in memory of Blocko drummer Marc "Mates" Maitland, who also played in The No Marks, Hyalin, and City Miles amongst others. There is also a Blocko shirt being sold to raise money for the same charity - the pre-order is up until the 7th, see the link below.

This is a wonderful collection of superb punk / melodic hardcore from a band whose influence has genuinely been felt far and wide in underground punk circles, and this digital release commemorates someone who meant a great deal to many in the UK punk scene and beyond.
