Kelly Kemp - Come Back, Come Back!

I've previously posted about Kelly Kemp's wonderful collaborative split 7" (with her fronting Bangers on one side and an El Morgan fronted The Arteries on the other), but her full-length from 2015 is also very much worth checking out.

Acoustic (for the most part) pop folk indie singer-songwriter-type stuff is on the menu, with strikingly crisp production, Kelly's stunning vocals, some glorious harmonies, and rather wonderful song-writing.

Every song here is gold, with outstanding moments in each. Take "Road" for example, a song that isn't terribly memorable for its first two minutes or so, but you try getting the subsequent refrain that builds and builds out of your head - you just don't want it to end.

There is a poignancy to a lot of what's here, especially on closer "Death and the Lover" with its melancholy cornet (or is it a trumpet?), but then you also have more poppy compositions such as opener "7 Miles" or the marvellous "Pillow". The balance here is spot on, and results in one very enjoyable record.
