Asher Baker - The Way Back

Just noticed that this record has (recently, I think) become available for free / name your price, thereby falling into the crosshairs of this page, and indeed becoming its first non-daily post. What an honour.

This is the 2016 debut album from London's Asher Baker, who describes himself as "an independent punk rock poet, rapper and singer-songwriter", although I wouldn't say there's any rap on this record. What is here though is outstanding folk-punk, replete with passionate social and political lyrics that are sadly as relevant as ever.

A host of guest vocalists and musicians, gorgeous piano interludes, superb production, and a fair bit of musical variation (venturing into metal and hardcore) keep things interesting and elevate this as a memorable record that rewards repeat listenings. It's certainly an impressive body of work.
