The 2015 debut from Ohio's The Skulx is a varied record primarily comprised of unabashed trumpet-fuelled rock 'n' roll, alongside detours into blues/jazz ("Ole Jukebox Move" ) and americana/country ("Patch That Hole").
A few of these songs do have a rather familiar feel though, especially closer "Nowhere", which sounds like a mishmash of a multitude of riffs and bits from all over the place. Maybe one day I'll write a list.
But then that also lends the album a classic feel, and there is a lot to like here, with the large number of guest contributers adding to the eclectic feel even further. Yeah, this is a really solid rock 'n' roll album, and a lot of fun too.
