The Old Edison - Story-Yelling

I remember reading an interview with The Old Edison years ago in which they said they'd have been a punk band had they been able to afford electric instruments. Instead, they headed down the country/folk route, but rather than describe themselves as folk-punk they coined the term "HoodFolk".

And on their sole full-length, you can hear what they meant. The "whisky-soaked" vocals here wouldn't be out of place in a gruff-punk band, but in place of 3 chords we have "Guitar, Bass, Banjo, Fiddle, Mandolin, Harmonica, Tin Whistle, [and] Drums".

At times the album is beautiful, poignant, and upbeat, at other times it's angry and morose, not to mention full of more than its fair share of earworms, especially in its first half. If you like your country / folk at the bottom of a bottle, this record should certainly appeal.
