State Drugs - Live. Laugh. Love.

Released yesterday, I think this is Colorado's State Drugs' first album proper, if you don't count a compilation LP, and features 8 originals plus a Counting Crows cover.

Playing subtly catchy driving alt rock, the band orbits the punk stylings of bands like Jawbreaker or Moving Targets without exactly quite splashing down. Still, there are some great riffs and harmonies, especially on lead single "Threat Level Midnight", and the guitar solos are fun without showing any sign of pretentiousness, and I get the real sense this could be a bit of a grower. I also really like bassist/singer Chris' understated and comforting vocal style, and the full sound from the twin guitars.

Yes, it's a little on the short side, but what is here is solid, and pretty damn enjoyable.
