(No Streaming on this one, you'll have to take the plunge and download the thing...)
There are a lot of bands out there that are doing or have done the saccharine pop-punk thing, but Mixtapes did it better than most. A lot of their stuff was on Death to False Hope Records, but as that wonderful netlabel seems to have fallen by the wayside, I'm left posting "These Are Us", a compilation of non-album tracks. Unsurprisingly, it's a bit of a mixed bag as these comps more often than not are, but there's definitely enough good stuff here to make it worth delving into.
Mixtapes played infectious (maybe I need to choose a different word in this day and age?) pop punk with gal/guy vocals, catchy riffs and choruses, and pretty relatable lyrics about everyday life, travel, and songwriting. The songs here aren't grouped chronologically - it seems like the band made an effort to get them to flow like a regular album, and it does for the most part.
One thing that definitely wasn't needed was "15 minutes of completely freestyled angst"... "in the mindset of a high school non conformist goth kid", but that's the final track, so you can just ignore that.
Overall this is an enjoyable collection of songs that alas has no stream to be found, so you'll just have to download it...
