Loss Leader are from Madrid and popped up on my radar a couple of years ago with the release of their debut album, featuring as they do Paula from Wild Animals. This, their new album, was just released yesterday, and first impressions are great.
The band describe themselves as a "pop band with punk spirit", and I can't decide if I quite agree with the former part of that, although there are certainly poppy elements to this, especially on the latter half of the album. Still, overall I'd still say we're talking more emo / punk with hints of grunge and even a little hardcore at times, although with repeat listens a more nuanced and varied sound does become apparent.
Vocals are both on the shoutier, screamier side, and softer and more melodic, and Paula's occasional backing vocals add a gal/guy dynamic to some of the songs.
My own reference point would be Dugong jamming with Spraydog, but I can't imagine that'll mean much to many (I could post albums by both bands here, maybe I should), but there's enough variety on the record that if you're still reading there's a good chance you'll enjoy this.
