Berlin-based Kiwi singer-songwriter Tom Young has been releasing music under the Freddy Fudd Pucker moniker for getting on for 15 years now. Indeed, he's just put out a new album, but today I'm posting about his 2018 gem "Open Doors".
And it's gorgeous. Folk-punk outta the gates, sure, but the album quickly changes gears, taking in some banjo-based tracks which are really quite beautiful ("Good Times", "Neptune's Hands" ), a few driving rock numbers ("Open Doors", "Unhappy Gods"), and even a song that's about as Leonard Cohen-esque as it can be aside from its length ("Bathymetry").
With superb songwriting and a fair bit of variety throughout, "Open Doors" is an accomplished album that's well worth spending some time with.
