I'd heard a few records by The Ainsley Band / Michael Ainsley, but none really grabbed me like this live album from the Long Division Festival in Wakefield in 2015.
On a truly atmospheric recording, these stripped back songs just shine. There's a warmth here, not to mention an evident rapport with an attentive audience enjoying an intimate and special performance.
Fortunately there's also plenty to enjoy for the previously uninitiated on what is, when all is said and done, an excellent acoustic alternative rock album. The songs are genuinely memorable, everything is well recorded, and as that final violin tremolo reverberates out to rapturous applause at the end of "Happy to Stay" there is a sense that you too have experienced something rather exceptional.

The vinyl version comes with a DVD-R of the performance, and can be currently had for as little as 50p (or more) plus postage (£3.20 in the UK, more internationally) - it's a lovely package.
