Belgium's For I Am come flying out of the gate on their sophomore full length from last year, and barely stop to catch their breath throughout, with tight-as-hell musicianship and powerful vocals, all wrapped up with super punchy production.
Sounding somewhat like Josie and the Pussycats (yes, as in the movie) or maybe even Tuuli (remember them?) but faster and a little heavier, these guys throw in the odd skate punk or metal riff into some pretty explosive melodic pop punk, and it's these variations that elevate the band above their peers.
Granted, this is an instant-gratification-on-the-first-listen kind of record, but then so is most pop-punk of this ilk, and there's still depth here, with the album holding up to repeated plays due to the sheer number of great songs.
I have no doubt had this been released 20 years ago on a major label it would have been massive, but we have it now, and it's great!
