Erica Freas - Live at the Wunderbar

Erica Freas is a bit of a superhero.

Originally from Washington state in the US, she has since moved to Bristol, UK, and is now one of the main forces behind Specialist Subject Records. She also arranged the 10 recent weekly "Distant Together" streaming concerts, and in doing so brought comfort and a sense of camaraderie to hundreds, myself included. In the States she was a key member of excellent melodic punk band RVIVR, and of pop-punk supergroup Somnia, as well as running the truly wonderful (and sorely missed) Rumbletowne Records.

And on top of all that she's a solo artist, and this is her live album from March 2016, which was recorded in New Zealand and features songs from her previous releases at the time plus a few that would end up on her second album which was released later that same year. As such, it provides a great snapshot of her career up to that point, and is effectively a live "Greatest Hits" record.

It's well-recorded, and an intimate, honest album, complete with the odd mis-start or forgotten lyric, which just adds to the sense of being there, and the songs are as strong as ever.

Live albums can be hit or miss, but this one is very much the former.
