Louis Lingg and the Bombs - Favela Ninja

Louis Lingg and the Bombs describe themselves as "a mix of ultra-political anarchic punk rock and fizzing children's nursery rhyme riot-pop", and that's probably about right.

From Paris (albeit with an expat Brit in their ranks for that old school English punk sneer), the band produce a heady mix of pop, rock 'n roll, electronica, punk, and whatever else they feel like throwing in there, centred around dual boy/girl vocals and a bucket of attitude - I'm thinking a less intentional / more political Regurgitator with killer female vocals would be close.

"Favela Ninja" is a glorious and chaotic mish-mash of an album, and one that surprises and delights in equal measure, with the opening title track being a prime example starting as it does with an Atari Teenage Riot-style assault before segueing into an earworm of a poppy chorus, and then on into metal-riffed europop. It's a helluva statement of intent, and the band maintain the quality (if not the exact formula) over the remaining nine songs (plus remix) and come away with a varied and quite simply stellar album.
