If I'm honest, I'm not exactly the biggest fan of hardcore, but Fig 4.0's "Action Image Exchange" is probably one of the most accessible examples of this style of music, and is just a great record to boot.
Within the context of the genre the album features a ton of melody and lots of great riffs and motifs, many of which are then frustratingly underused / underdeveloped, very likely in the interest of keeping things brief - this is after all a "full-length" of 17 songs in 20 odd minutes.
But therein also lies this record's charm. Whilst not taking themselves too seriously, Fig 4.0 managed to produce a bit of a classic; a hardcore album that's authentic enough to appeal to the purists, yet musically familiar enough to draw in those who usually like their punk more melodic.
And it sure as hell holds up to repeat listenings.
