𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀 - 𝗟𝗶𝘁 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻

Ok, this is a biggie. The third, and so far final (the band's been on hiatus since 2011) album from Winnipeg's The Paperbacks is a massive double album that unsurprisingly takes a 'lil while to properly digest. It's worth saying right away that the first 15 songs make up one CD, with the remaining 17 songs comprising the other - thinking about the album in these terms makes things a bit more manageable.

The Paperbacks are primarily a guitar indie pop/rock band, with a ton of melody, resplendent vocals, and the ability to write and produce songs that are catchy yet intimate. The pop sensibilities are most definitely there, but when the band wants to let loose they certainly can. And then there are other moments when the music just pleasantly washes over you. They've got range.

Across the 32 songs here the quality is impressively high; there's only one that I skip on a regular basis ("A Year on Trial" if you're curious). Nevertheless a record of this length is always gonna take some effort to get into and become familiar with, but it's pretty damn rewarding when you do.
