Vancouver's Spectres' new album could not be more appropriately titled, harking back as they do with it to the days of '80s New Wave / Post-Punk, and they've got the sound down pat. Fans of New Order or even The Cure should likely take notice.

The bass sound is spot on, the guitars glisten, vocals sound more British than North-American, and they've been around long enough now (Nostalgia is their fourth full-length) to know exactly what they're doing. Does that mean it's all new-wave by numbers? Not at all. Granted, their influences are front and centre, but the songs are vibrant and vital, and nothing seems to be done merely for the sake of it. And whilst their previous albums were decent, this one is very much a level beyond. Overall a really enjoyable (and yes, nostalgic) record.
