Jeff Rosenstock and his donation-based netlabel Quote Unquote Records first popped up on my radar about 14 years ago, just as Bomb the Music Industry! (which at the time was still pretty much a solo project) was about to release its third album "Goodbye Cool World". I had devoured the previous two records by the time it was actually released. Bomb the Music Industry! went on to become a "proper" band, and quite a prolific one at that, before eventually breaking up. Things came full circle with a compilation of home recordings that became Jeff's first album (or not, depending on who you ask) under his own name. To date he has released a further three albums, not to mention the side projects (in particular Antarctigo Vespucci, oh I guess I mentioned one), and has become a bit of a cult-hero. So, what's the point of all of this? Well, I'm a fan, and as such there was always gonna be a Jeff record on this page, but which one? In the end, I chose WORRY. as it's just about the strongest of the recent albums (they're all great), and as much as I love the earlier stuff, it is probably worth sticking with material that Jeff still plays live regularly (and if you get the chance, you should certainly see him live, he's in all likelihood the most energetic performer I have ever seen). As to the album itself, whilst there are definitely nods to the punk / ska / hardcore roots, this is more an indie-punk record. Poignant moments give way to almost stadium rock sing-a-long anthems that segue into everything in-between. And, if by chance you're not familiar with Jeff's body of work, WORRY. is a great place to start. Enjoy.
