Madrid's WEAK feature Wild Animals' bassist Fon (and drummer Paula as a guest vocalist) and deftly play '90s-US-style punk rock on this, their 2019 debut.
If you liked Epitaph's "Punk-o-Rama" or Fat Wreck Chords' "Fat Music" series of compilations then you're in for a treat; WEAK sound like an amalgamation of bands like Osker, Bad Religion, or NOFX; indeed "Nothing But Numbers" or "Parachutes" could easily be older NOFX songs.
It would be simple to criticise the band for being both formulaic and not actually nailing down their own sound, but I have to assume that the latter will come, and they do what they do so well I don't really care.
This is a genuinely fun and enjoyable punk record, especially so for someone who first got into punk in the '90s, and I'm looking forward to their next release.
