Gay Panic Defence - Party Smasher

Twenty three songs, but due to be released on a 7"...?? Well, that should give you some idea of how quickly this album flies by. Then again, grindcore & powerviolence aren't exactly two genres known for hanging about.

Scotland's Gay Panic Defence (named for a travesty that beggars belief) blaze through their offering here, only pausing for the odd sample every so often. Singer Ľubomír's vocals are truly a third instrument, although I'd need a lyric sheet to really follow them. Still, identity politics and Lord of the Rings seem to be common areas covered.

I haven't listened to this style of music for quite a while (I'm talking Brutal Truth's 1997 "Sounds of the Animal Kingdom" around the time it came out) but I'm really glad I stumbled across this record. It's got ferocity, a social conscience, and humour, and is most certain to blow any lingering cobwebs well away.
