Tragical History Tour - Aphorisms

Tragical History Tour is the "blood, sweat and tears acoustic country/folk/punk" act from Dundee's Derrick Johnston of UNIFORMS & Joey Terrifying (not to mention Make-That-A-Take Records), who on this recording is joined by musician and studio engineer John Harcus (also of Pmx).

I guess all those other projects might explain why, despite releasing their first EP in 2005, they only finally got around to putting out this, their debut full-length, in 2018 (to be fair, there were other singles and EPs).

"Aphorisms" is a wonderful album, full of catchy, affecting, and poignant layered acoustic goodness with Johnston's distinctive melodic scotch-soaked cheese-grater vocals delivering lyrics both personal and political. Harcus' production is warm and full, with grand dramatic soundscapes on some tracks contrasting a simpler and more intimate sound on others; this is definitely not an album of lo-fi folk punk.

It may have been a long time coming, but it was certainly worth the wait.
