Jan Reed - Ten Hundred Thousand

"Ten Hundred Thousand" is the product of a "song a month" project that has resulted in an intimate record of delicate, beautiful singer-songwriter folk from Boise, Idaho's Jan Reed / Summerhays.

The sound mainly consists of Jan's enticing vocals and an acoustic guitar, although at times her vocals are layered into bright harmonies or augmented with reverb (can't say I am a fan of that particular effect). Jake Davidson also adds guitar, vocals, and percussion on a song or two.

Of special note is "After the Crash", with its hypnotic chorus and slight sense of unease as it builds to its understated yet glorious climax, the title track with its ever so relatable lyric, "This body is a maze, ten hundred thousand days to find the core", and the sheer warmth of opener "Flower Seeds".

This is a record that is a pleasure to while away some time with.
