One of my favourite bands in my early twenties was Tokyo Adventures. Indeed, I put them on in Aberystwyth when as a student I dabbled with booking and promoting gigs (I did two). You can imagine my delight then when I stumbled upon this split, with DoubleDoublePlusGood featuring Tokyo Adventures' frontman and primary songwriter Tony Keenan (as well as Voo's Graham Jones), and Meow Meow! featuring ex-Tokyo Adventures bassist/singer Anna Mcdonald (not to mention Down And Outs' Mark Magill).
This release was part of Rekordmeister Music's "Used Vinyl Club", an initiative over 9 months in 2012 to have 9 new releases (CDs packaged with used 7 inches) and a gig each to launch them. I was out of the country at the time and had no idea that all this was happening. Fortunately, all their releases are up on Bandcamp, so I didn't completely miss out.
As far as the actual music goes, DD+G's indie-pop sound is very much akin to Keenan's old solo project The Screech Powers Expressway, with mid-paced guitar-pop around catchy motifs underpinning Keenan's comforting vocals. Meow Meow! also go down the indie-pop route, but with dual gal/guy vocals and a more jangly (janglier?) guitar sound, and a more lo-fi sound in general.
This is a great split that's well worth downloading even if you're not geeking out over where it's come from.
