Little Sur is (was?) a folk collective from New York centred around singer-songwriter Josh Meer, and this 2014 release was their first "full-length" and, as far as I know, the most recent thing they have done.
For context, the group had previously put out their self-titled EP and the excellent "You Ran With Me" mini-album plus a couple of singles, so my expectations were pretty high for this one.
And there was some disappointment; despite being billed as a full-length album, this was more of a mini-album, with "Interlude" and "Restless" (which are basically the same song) forming an 8 minute slow-building instrumental bridge between the opening three and closing three songs.
Still, what is here is quite beautiful: airy, delicate ambient folk that often washes over you in layers - this is music to both focus on intently or to simply have on in the background.
So, I certainly recommend grabbing this, but do yourself a favour and also download Little Sur's earlier stuff (all available on their bandcamp), including the "Brothersโ/โIdioms" single for the wonderful "Idioms" by Annika Zee. You'll then be left with an outstanding collection of folk songs to lose yourself in.
