Albany, NY's indie act Coupons have gone through some changes since their 2016 debut, and are now a five-piece with Dylan DePice replacing Michael DeMarco on drums, plus the addition of vocalist / keyboardist Shannon Straney (who also plays with singer/guitarist Dan LaFave in geoff gordon ).
"Up & Up" is a varied and quite expansive affair, exhibiting a ton of influences over its 14/15 tracks, but if I had to make a single comparison I'd say it's rather reminiscent of Antarctigo Vespucci, the side project of Jeff Rosenstock and Chris Farren.
Then again, "Ansel" reminds me of singer-songwriters like Jason Anderson, and "Synesthesia" is mostly a hazy '70s trippy rock number that wouldn't be out of place on a Wes Anderson soundtrack. There's a lot going on here, and whilst it might not be the most cohesive of offerings, it is one hell of an enjoyable ride.
