This is long-running punk band The Max Levine Ensemble's most recent album from 2015, on which they blend punk and mostly power-pop into something just that little bit different. This ain't no generic pop-punk album.
Granted, you mightn't be thinking that as the title track flies out of the gates with gusto but, over the 12 or 13 songs on offer here, there's a lot going on, be it the Clash-tinged feel of "Shadow of Death" (complete with guitar solo), the sped-up-Spacehog style of "My Valerian", or the anthemic nature of "American" or closer "Going Home Part II" (on both of which the keyboards of one Jeff Rosenstock certainly do no harm).
It's an album that very much bears up to repeat listenings.
Almost 5 years on, we must be due a new record, but then front person David Combs has also been busy with his other projects, namely his solo stuff under the name Spoonboy, and Somnia, a side project with Erica Freas who were due to tour the UK last month before a certain virus had other ideas.
In the meantime we'll have to make do with an unreleased track from this recording session that has recently been released here: https://lame-orecords.bandcamp.com/album/dont-stand-so-close-to-me-a-lame-o-compilation-for-self-isolation
