Onsind started out as Nathan and Daniel from Martha's acoustic side project. They became a 5 piece for the release of their most recent album, but were still a duo back in 2013 when "Anaesthesiology" was released.
Still, this album pretty much sounds like it was recorded by a full band, with a number of guest musicians (plus Daniel and Nathan themselves) adding extra layers of backing vocals and instruments (trombone, cornet, violin, clarinet, piano, electric guitar) on top of each song's acoustic guitar base.
Brilliant (and I really mean truly BRILLIANT) socially conscious and narrative driven lyrics cover politics, religion, the prison service, systemic racism, austerity, and mental health, and do so with both eloquence and sincerity.
It's a wonderfully cohesive album, but special mention has to be given to opener "Pokรฉmon City Blues" for its timeless and still very relevant chorus of "Never Trust a Tory", and the final trio of "Snitches Get Stitches", "God Hates Facts", and "Dissatisfactions" which together bring the album to an epic and very satisfying conclusion.
This record is, quite simply, essential.
